PRESS RELEASE

David Sinclair
‘[I Got] One Pair of Hands’
First single in 2 years is released today, June 27

David Sinclair returns with his first new song since 2023 — a rootsy, rock anthem built on self-reliance and the strength of collaboration. Written with guitarist Geoff Peel and recorded at The Bookhouse Studio in Bermondsey, ‘[I Got] One Pair of Hands’ will be released on June 27.

The track was produced and mixed by Jack Sinclair and features David Sinclair (vocals/guitar), Geoff Peel (guitar), Derek White (bass), Jack Sinclair (drums), and Georgie Webb (backing vocals).

“This song was inspired in the first instance by my brilliant band, the David Sinclair Four,” says Sinclair. “It’s about being one person with one pair of hands. They’re capable hands - no complaints - but there’s only so much I can do on my own. Thankfully, I’ve got my rock & roll band to help me ‘see it through to the end…’”

On a deeper level, the track is a personal reckoning. “It’s an emotional stock-take written at a time of life that only the lucky ones get to reach,” Sinclair continues. “There’s a strong mix of frustration and determination in the lyrics. This is the 66th track I’ve released under my own name, and somehow it still feels like a big new chance. ‘Looking back you can see just how far you’ve come / Look ahead and it’s like you’ve only just begun…’”

The track’s production brings a cinematic urgency to the band’s classic sound. “Jack produced the session with an ear for atmosphere and drama. Geoff’s lead guitar parts have real molten flow, and Georgie’s backing vocals add a warmth and clarity we’ll be leaning into more in the future.”

‘[I Got] One Pair of Hands’ captures the reality of leading a band through the ever-competitive UK blues circuit — with grit, gratitude and enough momentum to keep rolling. “I’ll do what I can,” Sinclair sings. “But I only got one pair of hands.”

With gigs across the country throughout 2025, the David Sinclair Four continue to earn their reputation as one of the most compelling live acts on the circuit. They’ve played the 100 Club, Borderline, Half Moon Putney, the Crawdaddy in Richmond, St Harmonica’s in Southgate, and festivals including Latitude, Cornbury, Broadstairs Blues Bash and more.

As The Morning Star put it: “A blues-rock masterclass.

Press Release: Apropos Blues (September 2022)

David Sinclair Four
Third DS4 album ‘Apropos Blues’
offers relevance and reflection

Taking its title from a conversation David Sinclair had with Billy F Gibbons of ZZ Top, ‘Apropos Blues’ is the new album by DS4 released on Critical Discs. The album packs serious heft, but wears its influences lightly: ‘Apropos Blues’ has a vintage, blues-based core and even tinges of Americana. The singing and lyrics are grounded in the contemporary world of southern England, though the Glasgow rapper Johnny Cypher features on lead track ‘Hip-Hopping’, which somehow blends a bohemian blues-shuffle with quick-fire regional rap. This third album from the David Sinclair Four is a true feast.

The band is led by David Sinclair [vocals / guitar]. Well known, of course for his journalism, David also performed with TV Smith’s Explorers and with London Zoo. He is joined by Geoff Peel [vocals / guitar] who has played in numerous London, blues-circuit bands including The Diplomatics, Gentleman Tim & the Contenders and Julien D’Imperio. Sinclair and Peel are joined by the young blues brothers Jos Wolfman Mendoza (bass/vocals) and Rory Mendoza (drums); the album was produced and mixed by Jack Sinclair. The ‘5th member of the 4’ is blues harp virtuoso Laurie Garman who has played with The Yardbirds, Lightnin’ Slim, Bob Marley and many others.

The album features 11 brand new original songs and is named for the Gibbons-inspired track. As David recalls, “We dropped the bucket into the well and came up with a grungy, deep-fried, Gibbons-esque riff and a lyric that speaks to a world of dark news and a cosmically-blown fuse: ‘High and low/Suck and blow/Apropos…’”. ‘Apropos’ can be defined as fitting and to the point, and there is a relevance, modernity and topicality to songs like ‘The Bands Of London’ and ‘Won’t Be Divided’ that makes this an album for these days. The band still pays its respects to its roots though, and each of the singles to be taken from the album will come backed with storming Chuck Berry cover: ‘Let It Rock’ and ‘Bye Bye Johnny’ respectively.

David Sinclair has taken his band all over the UK, and been invited to support the likes of Wilko Johnson, Samantha Fish, Walter Trout, John Otway and many more. With previous production credits going to artists as diverse as Jordan Fish [Bring Me The Horizon] and Robin Trower, plus the likes of Paul Jones and Maxi Priest making contributions, this is an act that is highly regarded.

These impactful songs taking in the themes that the David Sinclair Four often return to: freedom, escape and the passing of time, were written by Sinclair and Peel (‘Hip-Hopping  was written with Johnny Cypher). ‘Apropos Blues’ was created at Bookhouse Studio, SE15, in and out of lockdown.
